Casey came to us at eleven months old in July of 1998 by way of the English Springer Spaniel Rescue Society of Long Island. She's a sweet, goofy, bratty, lovable pooch with a penchant for swimming, hiking, catching frisbees, and sitting in laps. Some of her favorite foods include any kind of pasta (with or without sauce), and clementines. She's a bear in the morning before she's had her coffee, and has been known to chew an Altoid or two to freshen her doggie breath.
Casey is the "out-doorsy" type
She also has a wonderful vocabulary. Ask Casey, "How's life?" and invariably, she'll say, "Ruff!" She also knows what's on top of a house ("roof!"), and who was the greatest baseball player of all time ("Ruph"). More than once she's called me "Mama," and has been known to greet friends and family with a wildly shaking marshmallow (what we refer to as her tail) and a very cheerful "hurro."
Oh, and the two legged pup on the float in the pool with Casey is my son Matt (see the slide show just above the menu), taken when he was seventeen. I won't say how old he is now; you'll just have to guess
The photo of the wheaten-colored Cairn Terrier (Toto dog) is of Fergie, who was the most darling, gentle sweetie we'd ever known. She originally belonged to my dad, who had to give her up when he moved back to Florida. She enjoyed two-and-a-half years with us before succumbing to congestive heart failure in November of 2004, only a two weeks before her 12th birthday. We miss her terribly.
Aimee is a "little big dog"
On May 18, 2005, after months of searching and disappointment, Aimee came to live with us. (Doesn't she look like Toto?) Aimee is a finished champion (competing under the name, Take Aim at Ashwood), now retired, who came to us by way of Ashwood Cairn Terriers in Connecticut, and we are happy that we found her. She's a feisty little critter who thinks she's a big pooch, a "little big dog," as most cairns tend to be. She enjoys all manner of food, which can be a problem with such a little girl, so we need to watch her, as Casey is in the habit of leaving pieces of her snacks around the house. Aimee also loves to play and run, and pull the stuffing out of her little squeaky ducky toys. (By the way, both Casey and Aimee are Board Certified to perform squeakerectomies on a variety of plush creatures.) She also seems to think that flashlight beams can caught...at least she tries to catch them, much to our amusement and her chagrin.
